MILWAUKEE, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A successful career is not only defined by what is contributed in the office, but the difference one makes in the community. Many Northwestern Mutual financial representatives embody this definition of success by spending their free time reading to children, running for a cause and working hard to improve the community in which they live and work.
To recognize this commitment, Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, presents its Community Service Award each year. Exemplary volunteer work is recognized by the company through $280,000 in grants on behalf of its financial representatives.
This year, 16 financial representatives across the nation were each honored with a $15,000 grant to a nonprofit of their choice. Additionally, one winner in each of the four regions was recognized as most exceptional and received $25,000 for his or her organization.

"We encourage everyone to pursue their passions, both at the office and outside of work," said Eric Christophersen, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. "Our Community Service Award acknowledges our network of financial professionals who spend their free time working to improve communities and better the lives of others."
Since 1995, the foundation has donated more than $4.8 million to nonprofits on behalf of its representatives. This year's Community Service Award winners were announced at the company's regional meetings, with grants presented to nonprofits at local events throughout the country.
