MILWAUKEE, Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Vault has announced its rankings for the top 50 internships in America. Northwestern Mutual is again a Top 10 internship overall, and No. 2 for college students seeking careers in the financial services industry.
The announcement comes as Northwestern Mutual celebrates the 50th anniversary of its industry-leading internship program. Since its inception, more than 50,000 students nationwide have participated, and Northwestern Mutual is the only company recognized by Vault as a Top 10 internship for 22 consecutive years.
"The Northwestern Mutual internship is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that gives college students access to some of the best financial advisors in the industry so they can learn more about the career, more about themselves and increase their confidence entering the financial services industry post-graduation," said Michael Van Grinsven, director of the Northwestern Mutual internship program.
In fact, the company surveyed former interns about their experience:
- Three quarters say they still use what they learned during the internship
- 8 in 10 say the internship helped them identify their strengths
- 83% noted that it increased their confidence in making financial decisions, and, because of it, they feel financially secure
"This is an internship with impact. From day one, our interns develop critical business and leadership skills – they're hands-on helping people gain control of their financial lives and making a difference in their communities," said Van Grinsven. "We're not just celebrating 50 years of the internship, we're celebrating 50 years of producing the next generation of leaders for our company, industry and communities around the country."
Northwestern Mutual expects one-third of interns that are seniors will pursue full-time careers with the company after graduation. Many of the company's most successful financial representatives and more than half of those leading its offices around the country are former interns.
Vault.com provides in-depth intelligence on what it's like to work in an industry, company or profession. Vault's editors surveyed thousands of current and former interns and evaluated hundreds of internship programs to select the programs they feel provide the best all-around experience. Many factors are considered, including mentorship availability, career advancement opportunities, intern involvement/capacity for learning, compensation, industry clout and work culture.
