To honor this commitment, Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, recognized 26 financial professionals with the company's 2013 Community Service Award. The accolade highlighted the exemplary service volunteers have demonstrated and awarded each winner's nonprofit with a grant for $10,000.
Johnathan Williams, a financial representative intern at Northwestern Mutual – Carolina Condrey Group, Raleigh, N.C. is this year's Intern Community Service Award recipient. Enable America, a nonprofit that works to increase employment for disabled military members returning from service, received a $10,000 grant in honor of Williams' work with the organization.
"The best way to catalyze community engagement is to set a personal example of volunteerism," said John Kordsmeier, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. "Johnathan, along with the rest of the winners, are prime examples of how we can each take responsibility and improve the lives of our neighbors in each of our communities."
Since 1995, the company has donated more than $3 million to nonprofits on behalf of its representatives.
