Northwestern Mutual Supports Disaster Relief Efforts With $250,000 Grant to American Red Cross
Funds will benefit Red Cross Disaster Responder Program

MILWAUKEE, Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Every eight minutes, the American Red Cross responds to an emergency, from small house fires to multi-state natural disasters. Northwestern Mutual, through its Foundation, today announced a $250,000 grant in support of the nonprofit's efforts to respond to those facing emergencies across the country.

The grant will provide funding to the Red Cross Disaster Responder program, which provides aid in nearly 64,000 disasters each year. These funds directly support disaster relief activities, including volunteer training, equipment transportation and storage, and providing food, shelter, supplies and medical and emotional support.

"Tragedy doesn't discriminate, often arising when we least expect it," said Jo Eisenhart, senior vice president, human resources at Northwestern Mutual, who also oversees strategic philanthropy and campus and event experiences. "We're proud to play a role in spreading much-needed support and hope to those in crisis through the incredible work of the Red Cross."

Through a strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, the Red Cross works to ensure all people affected by disaster receive care, shelter and hope. Since Hurricane Matthew struck the United States in October 2016, the Red Cross has provided 103,000 overnight stays in shelters and evacuation centers, distributed 387,000 relief items and served more than 1.4 million meals and snacks.

"Northwestern Mutual continues to be a vital partner through its tireless commitment to our organization," said Patty Flowers, CEO, American Red Cross of Wisconsin. "This company goes above and beyond, recognizing that, while funding is critical, the donations of time and volunteer efforts play an essential role in helping us help others."

Northwestern Mutual has partnered with the American Red Cross since 1987, providing more than $4.5 million in grants to the organization.
