MILWAUKEE, Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwestern Mutual, a leading financial security company, announced today that Juan C. Zarate has been appointed to serve on the company's Board of Trustees. Zarate is chairman and co-founder of the Financial Integrity Network, a premier strategic advisory firm dedicated to helping its clients strengthen the financial integrity needed to succeed in today's global security environment.

Zarate is chairman of the Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance (CSIF) at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, sits on the board of the Vatican's Financial Information Authority (AIF), and serves as senior national security analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. He has also been a visiting lecturer of law at the Harvard Law School for the past eight years and a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) since 2009. Recently, he served on the transition teams for Secretary Mike Pompeo for his appointments to both CIA Director and Secretary of State.
Zarate is the author of several books and articles on foreign policy and national security. He has earned numerous awards, including the Treasury Medal, and is a senior adviser to several technology companies and institutions as well as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School.
His appointment became effective September 24.
