Donation will strengthen MSOE's artificial intelligence research capabilities and support the growth of tech talent in Milwaukee

Over the next five years, Northwestern Mutual's support will be directed towards creating an artificial intelligence laboratory space in the new Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall, forming a scholarship program for under-represented student populations, and funding for an ongoing guest lecture series.

"Southeastern Wisconsin is poised to be the next great region for science and technology," said Dr. John Walz, MSOE president. "Northwestern Mutual and MSOE share the same goal of advancing tech education in our area and arming our student population with essential resources that they need to succeed. The new artificial intelligence laboratory will be a bright spot for AI education and research and will provide significant educational capabilities to a rising generation of tech talent."

The sponsorship represents Northwestern Mutual's ongoing commitment to advance Milwaukee as a national hub for technology, business, and talent development. Milwaukee has many career opportunities for students who are graduating with computer science and technology-related degrees. In fact, there will be 31,000 job openings in tech fields in the next five years. This number does not include new jobs projected to be created in the region as digital transformation drives talent shifts in most industry sectors.

"MSOE has long been an important tech educator in our local community," said Karl Gouverneur, vice president of digital workplace, corporate solutions and head of digital innovation at Northwestern Mutual. "Through new partnerships like this, we continue our work towards creating a national tech hub in the Milwaukee area, to not only meet our evolving business needs, but to also provide a rich talent pipeline for all industries in this region."

Northwestern Mutual is dedicated to its hometown of Milwaukee and recognizes that technology and innovation drive the future of the region. The company has formed many partnerships with companies, organizations, and higher education institutions who share the same goal of advancing technology in the region.
